Fingo’s Autumn Meeting in 2023 will elect a board for the term 2024–2025

Fingo’s Autumn Meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. In the meeting, the members will elect a chairman, two vice-chairmen, and six to eight (6–8) other board members for the term 2024–2025.

The preparation and conduct of the elections are the responsibility of the Election Committee (VVK), which was chosen at Fingo’s spring meeting on May 23, 2023. The VVK’s task is to present its reasoned proposals for the association’s chairperson, vice-chairpersons, and other members of the board to be elected at the autumn meeting of the election year. Before this, the Election Committee must request nominations from Fingo’s members for candidates to fill positions of trust (Fingo’s rules §13). In addition to the rules, the Election Committee’s work is guided by the election order.

Every member organization that has been on Fingo’s membership register in March of the election year, by March 31, 2023, can nominate their candidates for the board, vice-chairpersonship, or chairpersonship by informing the Election Committee. VVK encourages Fingo’s member organizations to maintain communication and consider the possibility of proposing joint candidates from multiple organizations. Fingo has approximately 270 member organizations, so only a small portion can be directly represented in Fingo’s board.

VVK encourages member organizations to nominate candidates for board positions who have diverse experience and insights into societal influence and decision-making, as well as the courage to be a visible part of it. Candidates are also expected to have a good understanding of advancing and advocating for the activities and development policies of non-governmental organizations. Developing Fingo’s activities and formulating its strategy are part of the board’s responsibilities, so experience in strategic leadership is beneficial. Candidates are expected to be ready to commit to board work.

The current chair of Fingo, Liisa Laakso, is nearing the end of her term, as are several members of the board for the term 2022-2023. Each board member can be elected a maximum of two consecutive times. However, a board member can be elected chairman twice in a row, even if they were a board member before being elected as chairman.

Candidate nominations: August 14 – October 17, 2023

Member organizations have the right to nominate candidates even after the above-mentioned candidate nomination period, including at the autumn meeting. However, the Election Committee’s task is to prepare its proposals for personnel selections at least two weeks before the autumn meeting. Nominations made by the requested deadline will be helpful in this work.

Candidate announcements and their attachments should be sent by October 17, 2023, at 11:59 PM to the email address fingovaalit@fingo.fi.

For a board member and vice-chairperson candidate announcement, the following information should be included:

  • Candidate’s name
  • Reasons for their selection
  • Signature of the person authorized to sign for the proposing organization

For a chairperson candidate announcement, the following information should be included:

  • Candidate’s name
  • The member organization proposing them and, if applicable, other entities with the right to sign
  • Candidate’s affiliations
  • Any party and other societal affiliations
  • Societal activities

In addition, the VVK requests the following from all candidates:

  • A CV for the use of the Election Committee
  • A short introduction and a photograph for communication on Fingo’s website.

The documents submitted to the VVK are public. The list of candidates will be updated on this page as nominations are sent to the VVK.

Chairman candidates will appear in an event scheduled for week 44.
