Kepa: Intolerable further cuts to Finnish development aid

The Finnish government has announced an additional 25 million euro cut to Finland’s ODA budget to the shock of the Finnish development sector, still reeling from last autumn’s massive 43 percent cut to its funding.

The cuts demonstrate a shocking and shortsighted disregard for the unprecedented emergencies posed by the refugee crisis and climate change, says Kepa, Finland’s umbrella organization for development NGOs.”The government is purposefully bringing the Finnish development sector to an end. All the major decisions on fulfilling Finland’s international commitments will be dumped on the next government,” says Timo Lappalainen, Kepa’s executive director.
