Advocacy
Our member organisations share a broad objective to strengthen civil society, and we see the protection of our members’ interests as part of safeguarding and reinforcing the operating conditions of civil society.
In practice, this means that Fingo’s advocacy work creates space for NGO actors to operate in the fields of development cooperation and sustainable development. By staying in contact with decision-makers, public officials, and funders, and by taking part in processes that guide organisations, we work to ensure that organisations have the conditions they need to act for a fairer world.
Affordable trainings
Fingo’s members can participate in trainings with reduced prices.
Diverse advisory services
Fingo’s experts are here to help when you are planning a project, evaluate the outcomes or looking for new partners. We provide free advice on, among other things, project design, funding, finding partners, and developing global citizenship education.
Networking and peer support
Networking among organisations and with other actors is one of Fingo’s core tasks. Peer support among organisations is also invaluable. As a Fingo member, you become part of a wide community of organisations with extensive expertise in development cooperation, global citizenship education, and development policy advocacy. Learning, sharing, and supporting one another is increasingly important in an ever-more uncertain world.
Working groups and networks
Fingo’s working groups and networks offer our members and active citizens an opportunity for exciting collaboration and dialogue. The working groups operate mainly in Finnish.
Support for Global Citizenship Education
Global education increases the understanding of citizens of all ages about how each of us is connected to global phenomena and how we can promote global justice through our own actions. These activities aim to achieve societal change and influence societal structures that perpetuate and deepen global inequality.
Fingo coordinates a broad network of global education organisations, engages in advocacy work, follows research in the field, and seeks collaboration with a wide range of actors to increase impact. Learn more and get involved at: globaalikasvatus.fi.
Support for private sector collaboration
We support our members in planning and implementing cooperation with companies. We help organisations and businesses interested in cooperation to find one another and make use of new opportunities to reduce poverty and inequality.
Meeting rooms
We provide meeting rooms for our member organisations free of charge at our office in Sörnäinen, Helsinki. Information and booking: Meeting rooms.
Communications
We provide comprehensive information about development issues, current news, and highlight the work and results of NGOs. Fingo.fi, our newsletters, and our social media channels offer new and timely content, especially on topics of interest to Fingo’s member organisations.
Through our email lists, members can also inform a wide audience about their organisations’ events, send requests for comments, or address any other issues relevant to the entire NGO sector.
Every month, our member organisations receive a newsletter highlighting the most important events and news.
World Village Festival
The World Village Festival, a festival for sustainable development, offers organizations, citizens, and other actors opportunities to meet, network, and collaborate. The festival provides significant benefits for Fingo member organisations, for example regarding stand spaces and advertising. To participate in the festival as a Fingo member, an organization must have joined Fingo by the end of the previous year.
Maailman Kuvalehti
We publish Maailman Kuvalehti (World’s Pictoral Magazine), which tells stories from around the world, provides background and depth to the news flow. The magazine also showcases the work of Fingo’s member organisations.
Maailman Kuvalehti publishes job advertisements from organisations and other actors working in the development sector. Members may publish two adverts per calendar year free of charge. More details on pricing are available here. We also offer members discounted banner advertising space on our website. More information available here.
To submit a job advertisement, send an email to maailmankuvalehti@fingo.fi or contact teija.laakso@fingo.fi for more information.
We also offer our members a discount on the first year of the magazine subscription. The regular annual price is 49 €, but for our members the first year is 39 €. After the first year, the price returns to the regular rate.
