World Village Festival this weekend

World Village Festival goes live this weekend (27–28 May) in Suvilahti, Helsinki. The free-admission event will bring you concerts, dozens of talks and discussions, kids’ programme and 200 exhibitors from CSOs to authorities and food and bazaar vendors. The programme also features Street Art Area performances, workshops, a photo exhibition, evening clubs and pre-festival events. Organised by Fingo, the festival is expected to attract around 50,000 festivalgoers. This year’s theme is Force for Change!

The search for the Global Philanthropist of the year is underway again. The activity of the award recipient has been significant, selfless and has actively improved the world. The winner gets a €1,000 award. Anyone can nominate someone for the award until 30 April. The award is given by Fingo, the umbrella organization of Finnish development organizations, and it is awarded for the third time this year.

Force for change discussed at World Village Festival

World Village Festival will bring individuals and communities interested in the Earth’s future together for solutions and actions in Suvilahti, Helsinki, during the last weekend of May (27–28 May 2023). There will be almost 30 factual programme items featuring changemakers from around the world discussing issues including the relationship between food production and climate change, access of minorities to influence, and the role of policy as a force for change.

Music changing the world – World Village Festival’s music programme released

Opening Helsinki’s festival summer in Suvilahti, World Village Festival has released its entire music lineup and some of the key speakers. This year, the free festival is themed on a Force for Change. How music can be a force for change is shown by the likes of Israeli-Persian singer Liraz and Ukrainian-Canadian Balaklava Blues. Big Finnish names taking the stage are Von Hertzen Brothers, Jesse Markin, Yeboyah, Ilta and Megasakki. Key speakers include activists Helena Gualinga and Winnie Masai.

Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 lined up for World Village Festival

The first programme releases are now available for the spring 2023 World Village Festival that takes place during the last weekend of May (27–28 May 2023). The lineup for the festival in Suvilahti, Helsinki, includes the superstars of African music: Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 and Toya Delazy. These promoters of pan-African culture and strong human rights influencers will take the stage at the festival themed on Force for Change and bringing people together to seek solutions for a more sustainable future.

The spring 2023 World Village Festival takes place during the last weekend of May (27–28 May 2023) at Suvilahti, Helsinki. This time the theme is Force for Change! After a long wait, this major sustainable development event will be back in its full form and scale: a diverse, two-day festival for everyone, bringing together hundreds of exhibitors and vendors, dozens of programme items from talks to music and tens of thousands of people for a weekend of unique festival atmosphere.

World Village Festival attracts more than 20,000 festivalgoers – full audience capacity at many programme venues

The 2022 World Village Festival exceeded expectations and brought a total audience of 21,500 people to Helsinki’s Tiivistämö event venue, Allas Sea Pool, Market Square, Kino Regina, Temppeliaukio Church and the online events. The long-established free festival featured more than 40 programme items from concerts to talks and discussions, documentaries and the exhibitors’ Market of Possibilities.

Talking about the Boundaries of Our Planet – World Village Festival talks and discussions programme published

The climate crisis, inequality, refugees, war and peace as well as the roles of civil society and activism will be discussed at the World Village Festival from 28 to 29 May 2022. The Boundaries of Our Planet is the theme of this year’s festival discussed on stage at Helsinki’s Tiivistämö event venue, with participating organisations including the European Union, the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Church in Helsinki, Fingo, the Maailman Kuvalehti magazine and numerous civil society organisations. The programme will also be available through live stream on the Festival website.
