What Should We Talk About When We Talk About Security?
Global politics is shifting rapidly as realpolitik reshapes international relations, development cooperation is redefined, and sustainability struggles for attention. At the same time, enduring global challenges — from inequality and conflict to ecological breakdown — demand urgent and renewed focus. In this context, traditional ideas of “security” are being questioned, and new approaches are needed to understand what truly makes societies safe.
Join us for an engaging event where leading experts unpack what security means and explore how Finland can help shape a more just, sustainable, and secure future. Through three focused sessions, the discussion will examine how current security policies shape global stability, what themes should guide security debates in an age of crises, and what practical steps can move us toward peace, justice, and shared responsibility.
The program features contributions from Tampere University International Relations students and a performance of a poem by Elina Lajunen from the Unit of Theatre Arts, Tampere University.
