This event, “Disability rights – disability inclusion in climate action”, presents new research and practice-based knowledge about ways to conduct climate adaptation in an inclusive fashion and how to foster the agency of persons with disabilities (PwD) in line with Nordic welfare models.
The rights of PwD are disproportionately and negatively effected by the impacts of climate change. Despite this unacceptable fact, research shows how persons with diverse disabilities, especially women and children, are side-lined in the action for strengthening resilience and adaptive capacities. ‘Climate vulnerability’ of PwD manifests through, and because of, structural economic, social, and political inequalities. This can be changed.
This prestigious panel includes Mr Mikko Ollikainen, Head of the Adaptation Fund, Ms Elham Youssefian, Inclusive Humanitarian Action and Disaster Risk Reduction Advisor at the International Disability Alliance and H.E. Ms Hanna Sarkkinen, Minister of Social Affairs and Health (Finland). The event will be moderated by Mr Jason Boberg, Co-founder, SustainedAbility Disability and Climate Network
